Thiago Alves (27-12) defeated Patrick Cote (24-11) via unanimous decision (30-27 x 3)
Thiago Alves proved he has plenty left in the tank as he dominated Patrick Cote in a battle between two UFC veterans.
Both Alves — against Georges St Pierre — and Cote — against Anderson Silva — have fought for UFC titles but it was the Brazilian who showed he can still make some noise in the welterweight division.
Alves had a dominant opening round, connecting with leg kicks, a knee to the head and then a left hook which dropped Cote.
The Brazilian wobbled his opponent in the second round too, but Cote is notoriously durable and proved it again as he ensured this one went the distance.
But it was never particularly close as Alves took all three rounds. “One of the best fights from Thiago in years,” commentator Joe Rogan said. “Just vintage Thiago Alves.”
Cote, 37, announced his retirement in the Octagon after the fight.
